So this week in cake class I decorated cupcakes with different techniques.  We also could have done a cake - our instructor is pretty flexible in letting us work with what we'd like.  Cupcakes sounded easier to prep, so that's what I went with.  And the other half of the cake recipe went towards a single layer round cake that got put into the freezer for the next class.  Helps with the homework aspect.  Or maybe I'm the only one that wasn't thinking about prep stuff for class when I agreed that day would work for me.  :-)  Love the class, but not sure it was the best night decision for me.  But I've figured out a few tricks that makes it so that I'm not doing everything on Wed night.  Big plus for me!

Here was our daughter's favorite that I made.

Two roses on one cupcake.  She claimed this one from the moment she saw it.  She always wants a cake piece with a flower on it, so this was just too much to resist.  There were also some with a single rose.

And one with my first attempt at leaves.

Leaves aren't so hard, though I tend to make them very skinny.  The roses on the other hand weren't difficult per se, but not simple.  I tended to make them more of a bud and was working on opening them up a little more.  Next class I'll get some more practice.

We also did this other flower.  Not sure of it's name.  It was supposed to have a small dot in the center (likely of a contrasting color), but that didn't happen as I was lazy on the tip changing.  Guess I didn't want to practice anymore dots.  And I was trying out striping the frosting.  Pretty cool and something I never knew how they did.  (Here's a secret - it isn't hard at all.  But if you are practicing with the icing and need to "reuse it", well it will turn into a solid color.)

I also made 3 clowns.  Not hard at all.  I was rather surprised.  Again I was too lazy to change the tip for real hands and feet, so I improvised with the tip I had on the bag.  I didn't have a second icing color at that point, so it didn't seem worth the effort.  These were a tight squeeze into my cupcake holder and I think all had issues in the transport home.  But even after that, you can get the general idea of how they turned out.  And though she claimed the two rose one from the moment she saw it (while eating breakfast), she ate a clown cupcake first (and in doing so almost lost the two rose one to her daddy).  Little man ate one too, but I think it was too much icing for him.  Poor guy doesn't like to get icing on his fingers and so he required a couple of wipes to make it through the cupcake.  It was quite a sight to see.  I think next time I might just put it on a plate and give him a fork.  :-)

Here are all of the yummy cupcakes I had to share.
