Justice had his 1 year appointment last Friday and while he was there, they took blood samples to perform allergy testing.  The results came back yesterday and he is allergic to soy, eggs and peanuts.  The first two we knew about and the third was one we were hoping to discount.  Only 1.5% of kids are afflicted with peanut allergy, so I guess he is an unlucky one.  It is a moderate affliction so that means he must have epi doses with him from now on.  20% of kids with the affliction grow out of it by age 6 so we are hoping that he at least grows out of some of the allergies.  He will be tested again in 6 months, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

It is funny because you can get on the internet and mothers attribute this to not breast feeding because medical studies point to kids with food allergies not breast feeding.  Well, in our case, Jordan did not breast feed, no allergies at all.  Justice did breast feed and he has the most unlucky of food allergies.  I guess it goes to show you that some things are not so clear cut.  It will be an adjustment but I am sure things will be ok.  We are fortunate that there is such an effective remedy if he ever does come in contact with peanuts.  The epi shot stops the reaction cold and gives the child relief.  The bad part is, so many things are made with peanuts or peanut oil.  We are hoping for the best but preparing for this as a lifetime ailment.
